Orchestra to create sounds of light, dark

News Date:
Thu. 10/24/2013

Great composers of orchestral music are able to use their medium to create shades of darkness and light, not for the eye, but for the ear.

The Friends University Community Orchestra will present “Darkness and Light” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 29 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.

The orchestra, conducted by Dr. Wesley DeSpain, will perform two representative examples of sound color that will thrill (and maybe even chill) the audience: Mussorgsky's “Night on Bald Mountain” (made famous by Disney's movie “Fantasia”) and the “Symphony No. 2” by Sibelius.

Tickets are $11 for adults, and $9 for seniors and students. They may be purchased online or by calling the Fine Arts Box Office at 316-295-5677.
