Friends University to honor alumni for athletic accomplishments Jan. 11
Friends University will induct four former Falcons into the University’s Athletic Hall of Fame Jan. 11 in Garvey Physical Education Center. The induction ceremony will take place between the women’s and men's basketball games (estimated to occur sometime between 7:15 to 7:45 p.m.).
- Renee Bellerive, a 1992 graduate, will be honored for her accomplishments in basketball and softball. She attended Friends from 1989 to 1991. She currently works in the inventory department at Dodson International, an aircraft parts distributor, and lives in Richmond, Kan.
- Dave Rineberg, a 1989 graduate, will be honored for his accomplishments in basketball, baseball and tennis during his time at Friends University from 1985 to 1989. A former coach to tennis greats Venus and Serena Williams from 1992-99, he currently runs Rineberg Tennis Training Academy in Deerfield Beach, Fla.
- Rick Fitzgerald, a 1970 graduate, will be honored for his accomplishments in football. He attended Friends University from 1966 to 1970. He retired after working as a stockbroker for Merrill Lynch for 23 years and currently teaches graduate-level finance at Southern Nazarene University in Oklahoma City.
- Gladys Downing, a 1984 graduate, will be honored for her accomplishments in volleyball and softball from 1981 to 1984. Since graduating from Friends University, Downing has sponsored and coached youth volleyball programs and has volunteered with Big Brothers & Big Sisters in Wichita.
