Friends University is pleased to announce the appointment of Deb Stockman as associate vice president of Institutional Advancement. Stockman’s primary responsibilities will be to oversee communications and brand management for the University.

“With increasing public scrutiny of higher education, now more than ever, it is important that the University be aggressive and deliberate in its marketing initiatives,” explained T.J. Arant, Friends University president. “We need to help people understand who we are, all the excellent things we do and how Friends University has a positive impact on our community and in our region.”

Stockman brings with her extensive experience in the marketing arena, most recently at Southwestern College.

“Her expertise will serve Friends University well as we enhance our efforts to better articulate the quality and scope of our programs,” said Tracy Muirhead, vice president of Institutional Advancement. “There are so many ways to communicate with our constituents today. Having well-defined, well-integrated messaging – particularly for prospective students – is vital to our success. We want to find those students who are looking for programs the University offers and who are a good fit for Friends.”

In addition to her experience in higher education, Stockman has several years of marketing experience in both the retail and technology industries. Image building and branding is routine in retail business, but higher education has been somewhat slow to adopt effective branding strategies, Muirhead noted.

“I am very excited to join Friends University and to be able to help them communicate their mission, values and vision to Wichita, to Kansas and to a greater national market,” Stockman said. “Friends is working on so many incredible programs and projects that marketing them to the appropriate audiences will truly be a pleasure and an honor.”

The award-winning Friends University Communications Office is excited to be working with Stockman. This is another example of how Friends University is making its best, even better, Muirhead said.

Stockman’s first day at the University will be Feb. 3.
