Voices from the past will arise throughout the Friends University campus as part of the fifth annual National History Day Kansas District 6 Competition Feb. 28.
The event has grown in popularity for area middle and high school students during the past several years, going from less than 200 students to more than 255 already registered for this year’s event.
Participants will compete in five categories: exhibits, historical papers, performance, documentaries, and websites. More than 50 faculty and staff members from Friends University, Wichita State University, area high schools and middle schools, and Wichita-area museums will serve as judges to evaluate the students’ projects.
Winners will be invited to participate in the State History Day Contest in April. Additionally, Friends University’s Division of Social and Behavior Sciences will offer $5,000 scholarships to five winners, encouraging them to study at Friends University in the future.
