Before coming to Friends University, Joe Mitchell had already made a name for himself on college basketball courts across south-central Kansas. But to Mitchell, his name and reputation weren’t nearly as important as his team and the game.

This attitude, determination, perseverance and hard work earned him the distinction of NAIA Division II national player of the year. Mitchell led the nation in scoring at 32.2 points per game and led the Falcons to their greatest season with a KCAC regular-season title.
