Doerksen to receive Wichita Business Journal CFO Award
Friends University Vice President of Administration and Finance Randy Doerksen will be among 11 Wichita businesspeople to be honored for the Wichita Business Journal’s CFO Awards June 24.
The award recognizes Wichita-area chief financial officers who are instrumental in helping their businesses succeed.
“I am deeply humbled and highly appreciative,” Doerksen said. “There are a significant number of very qualified candidates elsewhere in the community, and I am truly honored to be recognized in this way.”
Doerksen, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1981 and a Master of Business Administration-Executive in 1992 (both from Friends University), joined the University’s staff in 1988. Previously he worked for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
“Following seven years with the FDIC, I returned to my alma mater as CFO,” Doerksen said. “My title changed from CFO to VP sometime in the 1990s, but the responsibilities have always remained the same.”
During his more than 25 years with the University, Doerksen said he has been fortunate to be surrounded by a collaborative team of colleagues who have consistently strived to serve the good of the whole.
“We are highly supportive of each other and work toward common goals. The support teams in the areas I supervise are incredible – dedicated, smart, loyal and highly talented. Our success is merely a reflection of their commitment and accomplishment,” he said. “Over the years, I have learned that serving as an effective CFO involves far more than crunching numbers, developing systems and providing good forecasts. Effective financial leadership is impossible if not accompanied by relationship building and intentional collaboration.”
