Through our 100 year history, Friends University has worked to meet the needs of Kansas residents. In the 1980s, Friends recognized the challenges working adults faced when they decided to return to school. It can be challenging for working adults to balance family, work and a full-time university schedule. Friends strived to develop programs that are convenient and provide students a full-time course schedule in a delivery model that allows for their degree to be completed in a reasonable amount of time.
Studies show that college graduates earn more money on the average than non-college graduates. Completing their degree at Friends has allowed hundreds of Topeka graduates to take that next career step. Our alumni will tell you that Friends University has made a difference for them in their careers, their lives and in their community.
The faculty and staff at our site serve more than 200 students. Our students range from those just beginning their university studies, to those who are completing a degree, and finally to those moving on to a graduate degree program. Students choose from convenient and practical selections of classes that meet the requirements of many of today’s professions. Our classes are located in an adult-focused facility that provides academic enrichment coupled with technical resources and student support services.
Our small classes provide individual attention for our adult learners. Services available to our students include personal enrollment support, on-site advising, billing, technology and writing center support. Students are able to access our wireless remote computer equipment, laptop computers and on-ground computer lab. In addition, our facility provides ample parking, a student break area, copy services as well as personal support for our students.
Area alumni find a life-long connection with their fellow students, faculty, staff and the University community through meetings, special events and class newsletters. From its early beginnings in Wichita in 1898, through our growth and statewide presence today, Friends University exists to provide students a high quality educational experience.
