What do you look for in a university?
If this is your first time looking at colleges, we have some tips to help you through the process:
- Visit the Campus – There is no better way to make sure the feel is right for you. You will be spending a lot of time at the university, so make sure you like what you see and who you meet.
- Get to Know the Faculty – Faculty play a key role in your education. Getting to know them by their area of discipline and your interested area of study can make the difference in your college choice.
- Tour the Campus – Get a better understanding of where you will attend class. When you schedule your campus visit, ask to also sit in on a class. This will give you a good idea of what it’s like to be in the classroom. You will also see where social activities take place. Eat in the dining hall, get a tour of the residence halls, ask current students what they like and what they don’t like. Do your homework!
- Outside Classroom Involvement – Get an idea of what outside classroom involvement you can be part of. Whether you enjoy campus ministries, going on mission trips, studying abroad or doing your part with community service, there are plenty of opportunities for you to be involved and enhance your classroom learning through campus activities. Make sure they fit your interests. Involvement can include Campus Ministries, Fine Arts, Student Organizations as well as Athletics. The possibilities are endless.
- Scholarships and Financial Aid – Financing a college education can seem intimidating. At Friends University we want you to have a good understanding of the scholarships available and an even better understanding of how financial aid is processed to help fund your college education. We also believe we have the best financial aid department in the State of Kansas who are extremely helpful in explaining the complex topic of financial aid so you feel better educated when you leave.
Defining what is important to you can make your college visit much more enjoyable. By using the checklist above, you will know what to look for when you arrive. In the meantime, we invite you to look around our web site. We know you will like what you see. More importantly, we encourage you schedule a visit to Friends University today.
