Computer Information Systems – Online Learning

The Friends University bachelor of science in computer information systems (CIS) program is designed to prepare students for careers in the challenging and ever-changing field of computer information technology. Students are prepared across a cross-disciplinary sequence of courses in management, accounting, marketing, finance and information systems. Students choose two of the following four concentrations as part of the program; each concentration blends the theoretical and practical to provide you with skills and knowledge to be well grounded from design through implementation.

  • Data Systems Integration – develops processes to combine technical and business processes and data from different sources into meaningful and valuable information. Organizations of all sizes are in need of people who can integrate data to support their business operations and decision making.
  • Information Systems Architecture – develops foundational technical knowledge in database management, systems analysis and architecture. Career opportunities include information architecture, design, analysis, database development and other information-related fields.
  • Web and Server Administration – builds a foundation in web theories and hosting, operating systems in Windows and Linux families, and information storage systems. Career opportunities include network administration and/or manager, as well as web developer among other server and storage-related fields.
  • Developer – emphasizes learning three languages: C#, HTML5 and Powershell. These applications are both visual and non-visual in web-based and client/server platforms. The skills will provide career opportunities in software development.

Computer Information Systems degree classes are taught by professionals who work in the fields they teach. Their expertise, combined with the active collaboration of the students, creates an intensive and challenging program of study with enterprise specific functions, processes, and applications. CIS graduates will find themselves well-suited to a variety of jobs in which their skills will prove very valuable.

Students work through the program with other adults in a supportive learning environment where they receive individualized attention and support throughout their academic program and are regularly connected with faculty, professional experts and classmates. They will also have access to Friends University’s extensive resources, which include the library and academic support services.
