Friends University Kansas City Education Center Announces Move to Overland Park

Friends University has moved their satellite location, the Friends University Kansas City Education Center, from Lenexa, KS to Overland Park, KS.

Friends University will occupy 6300 Glenwood St., Suite 100 in the Cloverleaf Office Park at Metcalf Avenue and Shawnee Mission Parkway. The new location offers graduate level education for students pursuing a master’s degree in family therapy and has undergone a complete interior remodel focused on creating classroom and office environments that specifically support the needs of the students and faculty, says Friends University Graduate School Dean, David Hofmeister, Ed.D.

Employment opportunities for marriage and family therapists are increasing at rates that are much higher than many other counseling and psychology professions. Applications for the graduate program in family therapy at Friends University’s Kansas City Education Center are high, University officials say, as are graduation and licensure rates, and administrators and faculty are committed to the continued success of their student body, a commitment that led to the relocation of the Kansas City campus.

The new location is more accessible to clinical partner locations in the Kansas City area where degree bound students supplement class work with real world experience gained through hundreds of hours interning in professional clinical and therapy environments.

“The site selection and design of the Overland Park campus is an investment in the continued success of our students, “ says Hofmeister.

That investment will not be reflected in tuition costs.

“Students often have a misconception that education costs at private universities like Friends are much higher than at public universities, and that is simply not the case, “ Hofmeister says, “Friends is committed to offering top-tier degree programs at affordable rates.”

The Master of Science in Family Therapy degree at Friends University has been rated among the Midwest’s most affordable graduate degree programs in counseling and psychology.

Friends University began serving students in the Kansas City area in 1989 and has occupied several locations as the University’s student body and the geography of the Kansas City metro area have changed.

The most recent move, from Mission, KS to the Lenexa location, was in 2005.

The Friends University Kansas City Education Center, Overland Park will be fully operational by July 6; registration and class information is available on-site or by contacting the Friends University Kansas City Education Center.

Friends University, a Christian University of Quaker heritage, equips students to honor God and serve others by integrating their intellectual, spiritual and professional lives.
