Friends University alumnus named NBA Executive of Year

R.C. Buford, general manager of the San Antonio Spurs and a 1987 graduate of Friends University, has been named as the NBA 2015-16 Executive of the Year.

This is the second time in the last three seasons he has received the honor, previously earning it during the 2013-14 season. He won this year by receiving 77 points from votes cast among his fellow NBA executives.

His efforts to retool the Spurs led to a team record-setting 67 wins in the regular season.

“We are pleased R.C. has received this award again, and we join others in congratulating him on this honor,” said Dr. Amy Bragg Carey, Friends University president. “From my personal connections with R.C., I have been inspired by his excellent leadership, his commitment to shared values such as integrity and character and his dedication toward his team, staff and to the game of basketball – all of which makes his organization one of the strongest professional sports models in the world.”
