Sinfonietta Orchestra to Combine Music and Installation Art in April 5 Concert

The Friends University Sinfonietta Orchestra, formally known as the Chamber Orchestra, will present its Spring Concert Thursday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m. in Sebits Auditorium, Riney Fine Arts Center.

The orchestra’s Spring Concert will feature two talented faculty members. Daniel Racer, assistant professor of music at Friends, has composed a piece that will be premiered at the concert. It was written as a collaborative effort with installation artist Chiyoko Myose. Myose’s work is four separate installation pieces based on a theme of relationships. Racer’s single movement piece explores all four installation pieces displayed at the concert. Cindy Thompson, who teaches oboe at Friends, will also perform Vivaldi’s “Oboe Concerto in D Minor, RV 454.”

Tickets are free, and the concert is open to the public. Guests are invited to stay for the free reception following the concert.

The performance will take place in Sebits Auditorium in Riney Fine Arts Center on the Friends University campus at 2100 W. University Ave., Wichita, Kan.
