Sunflower Trio to perform for first time on university campus April 21

Wichita, KS – The Sunflower Trio with Friends University Assistant Professor of Voice Dr. Matthew Schloneger will present its 17th annual recital Saturday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m.

The trio was formed in 2002 and is dedicated to the performance of music featuring voice, violin and keyboard. Consisting of Dr. Schloneger, tenor, Rebecca Schloneger, violin, and Kenneth Rodgers, piano and organ, the group excels in a variety of styles, with an eclectic repertoire ranging from Bach to Broadway to bluegrass. The trio is also a family affair: Matthew and Rebecca are husband and wife, and Kenneth is Matthew’s uncle.

The trio has performed extensively throughout the United States as a part of the Kansas Arts Commission and Mid-America Arts Alliance touring rosters. The Sunflower Trio released its first recording All Good Gifts, featuring arrangements of familiar classical and popular songs in 2005 and a second recording, Reflections: The Music of J. Harold Moyer, in 2015.

The performance will take place in Alumni Auditorium in the Davis Administration Building on the Friends University campus at 2100 W. University Ave., Wichita, Kan. Tickets are free, and the recital is open to the public.
