Friends University Percussion Group to include ballet in The Detail of the Pattern Is Movement performance

Wichita, KS – The Friends University Percussion Group, directed by Dr. Von Hansen, will perform an evening concert titled The Detail of the Pattern Is Movement Tuesday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m.

One piece, Flowerpot Music No. 1 by Elliot Cole, will be performed with two percussionists whirling around a single table of flowerpots playing intricate locking rhythms.

Senior Singing Quaker and percussionist Deion Burton will be performing two works for singing marimbists.

The culmination of the evening will be a combined performance of the Percussion Group and the Friends University ballet department directed by Andrea Vazquez-Aguirre. Dr. Hansen has arranged Philip Glass’ piano work Wichita Sutra Vortex for five keyboard percussion players and the Friends University ballerinas.

The performance will take place in Sebits Auditorium, Riney Fine Arts Center on the Friends University campus at 2100 W. University Ave., Wichita, Kan. Tickets are free, and the concert is open to the public.
