Friends University’s Community Orchestra to Perform Oct. 29

The Friends University Community Orchestra will present its fall concert Oct. 29, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. in Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.

Dr. Lillian Green, Director of Strings, is the new director of orchestra. She received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. Before being hired at Friends University, she taught at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas.

“What a wonderful group of people coming together to make music – from violinists to tuba players, from 93-year-olds to 18-year-olds. I am so pleased to showcase the wonderful students and local talent we have in this upcoming concert,” said Dr. Lillian Green.

The concert will include a variety of music from Mozart to Delius, including Edvard Grieg’s “Peer Gynt Suite No. 1,” a dramatic programmatic piece based on a Norwegian folk story.

The performance will take place in Sebits Auditorium on the Friends University campus at 2100 W. University Ave., Wichita, Kan., and the cost is $9 for adults and $6 for seniors and students.
