Friends University to celebrate 2021 Homecoming Oct. 8-10

Friends University Homecoming will be Friday, Oct. 8, through Sunday, Oct. 10, and will feature a variety of special events including an awards banquet, food trucks, a football game and a 5K run/walk.  

The Distinguished Alumni and Athletic Hall of Fame Awards dinner and banquet will take place on Friday, Oct. 8 at 5:30 p.m. at Crown Uptown Theatre. The 2021 award winners include award-winning musician Tom Reeves, R.C. Buford from the San Antonio Spurs Sports and Entertainment, and Flowers on Douglas landscapers, Norman and Leatha Hein. Honorees also include Dr. Andre’ J. Thomas, Stan Leach, Michelle Riney Henderson, Tony Sheffield, Cole Davis, Aaron Howell, Chris Allen, Derek Racette, Bruce Burnett and members of the 1985 volleyball team. On Saturday, Oct. 9, the 1960/1961 and 1970/1971 classes will celebrate with a reunion at 9 a.m. in Alumni Auditorium in the Davis Administration Building. The Falcons athletics have a full day. First, the Friends University football team take on the McPherson College Bulldogs at 1 p.m. at Adair-Austin Stadium while the women’s volleyball team prepares to take on the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Garvey Physical Education Center.  

Also on Saturday, the Friends University Concert Jazz Band is presenting a jazz concert featuring Brass and Boujee at 7:30 p.m. in Sebits Auditorium in Riney Fine Arts Center.  

The University Alumni Office is hosting a Run with Friends 5K alumni event on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. CST. The event is both in-person at Rose Window Plaza on the Friends University campus or virtual for out-of-town friends. Participants will gather at the Rose Window Plaza on campus to start the run, walk or bike event together. Out of town guests can gather at their homes at the same time to complete a 5K virtually.
