Wichita, Kan. – Last week, Friends University hosted Emmy and Tony Award winning actress and singer, Kristin Chenoweth, for a master class with Friends University students.
She arrived on Friends University’s campus the afternoon of Oct. 7 where approximately 200 music theatre high school students and directors were ready to see her in action. The master class began by Ms. Chenoweth answering questions from a panel of students. She then coached 11 aspiring Friends University music theatre students on how to elevate their stage performance and singing skills.
“She was a pleasure to work with,” said Friends University participant, Braden Sweet. “A kind and genuine person. She helped me push to make new choices and to constantly work for my goals.”
The class ended by Ms. Chenoweth drawing a winner from the audience for signed tickets to her For the Girls concert the next day with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra. At this concert, Ms. Chenoweth mentioned more than once the incredible program and talent Friends University offers in their music theatre program.
“We were thrilled to provide this opportunity for our students and community,” said Dr. Nathanael May, Friends University’s Fine Arts Division Chair. Plans are underway to offer an annual event focused on presenting a nationally recognized Broadway entertainer and mock auditions for Kansas high school students each fall at Friends University.
Friends University, a Christian University of Quaker heritage, equips students to honor God and serve others by integrating their intellectual, spiritual and professional lives.
