Wichita, KS- Friends University advances to nationals in the National Opera Association (NOA) Collegiate Opera Scenes Competition – Division I for the third consecutive year!  National finalists represent the top four entries in the undergraduate category in the nation.

The winning scene is from the 2022 spring production of The Old Maid and the Thief by Gian Carlo Menotti. It was performed by Friends University students, Hannah Howard as Miss Todd and Naomi Cavanaugh as Laetitia and directed by Managing Director at Opera Kansas, Ashley Winters.

The two students will travel with Friends University’s Associate Professor of Voice and Opera Seme Director, Dr. Matthew Schloneger, to the NOA 2023 Conference in Texas this coming January 4-7.

“I am so proud of our students and thrilled for the national recognition that demonstrates the great strides made in our opera program at Friends,” said Dr. Schloneger.
