Friends University’s Fall Ballet Fuses Classical and Contemporary Styles

The Friends University ballet department will present its annual Fall Ballet performance at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7-8 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 9 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium at Friends University.

The ballet will feature two guest artists: Misty Rascon-Smith of Los Angeles, and James Wallace, artistic director of David Taylor Dance Theatre.

Recital Merges Cello, Power Tools and Dance

Fanfare Showcases Friends University Fine Arts Faculty

The 75-minute exhibit and show is also an opportunity for the community to experience the creatively diverse faculty in the University’s Division of Fine Arts.

Debra Clemente to Display Landscape Paintings

Debra Clemente will showcase her creative talents in an art show Aug. 23 to Sept. 16 in Friends University’s Riney Fine Arts Gallery. The vivid landscape paintings will be displayed in the Riney Fine Arts Center on the Wichita campus.

Four Freshmen to Perform Jazz Concert at Friends University

The Friends University Jazz Department is proud to present the Four Freshmen in concert 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19 in Sebits Auditorium in the Riney Fine Arts Center on the Friends University campus. The Jazz Friends Community Big Band, celebrating their 20th anniversary, will be backing the group.

Animal Artists Flex Their Paws for a Cause

The latest exhibit to grace the Riney Fine Arts Gallery is more primal than most we’ve seen. Some might even call it animalistic – literally.

Art lovers will be able to get acquainted with the creative natures of the Sedgwick County Zoo’s resident artists: Billy the gorilla, Lucille the chimpanzee, Talali the tiger, Marbles the chimpanzee, Bibi the black rhinoceros, Kramer and Gerrard the ring-tailed lemurs, Daisy the orangutan, Roscoe the Tayra, and of course Cinda and Stephanie the African elephants.

Symphony of Spring Brings Broadway to Wichita Stage

This year’s “Symphony of Spring” is all about extremes.

“We all know that life can be a roller coaster of emotions, and this show will take us on that ride,” said Dr. Mark Bartel, associate professor of music at Friends University.

With those extremes, comes the theme, “It was the Best of Times. It was the Worst of Times,” which will be performed at 7:30 p.m. April 29; 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. April 30; and 2 p.m. May 1. All performances will be in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.
