International Students

In addition to the general and specific requirements for our three colleges (College of Business, Arts, Sciences and Education; College of Adult and Professional Studies; and the Graduate School), international students must complete the following:

  1. Read the Academic Admissions Standards Policy and the Community Life Standards.
  2. Complete an application using one of the following methods:

Undergraduate Programs

In addition to the general and specific requirements for undergraduate study, international students must complete the following:

  • Official transcripts from the high school or college registrar's office must be mailed directly to the Friends University Admissions Office from each institution. (Transcript request form)
  • Declaration of Financial Support
  • Official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or ACT/SAT score

All international students must have a high school equivalency cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4-point scale to be admitted.

Native speakers of English from Australia, English-speaking provinces of Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom will not be required to submit a TOEFL score. Non-native speakers of English who have graduated from high school where the language of instruction is English will not be required to submit a TOEFL score. The Director of Admissions has the right to waive the TOEFL requirement for students presenting a grade of B or better in an introductory composition class from an accredited U.S. college or university.


All other international students will need a TOEFL of 500 or an acceptable ACT/SAT score to be fully admitted. An international student with a TOEFL between 470 and 499 or an acceptable ACT/SAT will be provisionally admitted. International students with a TOEFL below 470 will be reviewed on an individual basis by the Admissions Committee and the Coordinator of International and Academic Services for consideration for admission. Additional documentation of English proficiency may be requested. An international student with a TOEFL below 430 will not be admitted to the University.

Graduate

In addition to the general and specific requirements for graduate study, international students must complete the following:

  • A $65 non-refundable application fee is required of all international students with the exception of those who are moving directly from the undergraduate program at Friends University, who will be assessed the regular $45 application fee.
  • A minimum score of 560 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the satisfactory completion of one year of study at another U.S. college or university. This requirement can be waived by the program director for students from English-speaking countries.
  • A writing sample such as an essay or term paper
  • A personal interview with a designated representative of Friends University
