Most careers require a basic understanding of mathematics, but if numbers are your passion, there are several math-oriented careers to choose from, and high demand for individuals skilled in this discipline. A math degree from Friends University provides students with a common math core, and specific instruction in one of the following tracks, depending on your individual interests:

—Education for students whose goal is to teach high school or middle school math

—Pre-engineering for students who will seek an engineering program

—Computer science for students who are interested in pursuing a career that involves computers

—General mathematics for students interested in pursuing mathematics as a career or a graduate degree

The full-time faculty members in the math department teach the required courses for the mathematics major and consist of highly qualified professors who are available to students. The computer algebra software, Mathematica, is used in many of our courses. You will learn to use this professional grade software, which is a skill that is transferable to the workplace. Finally, you will become part of a community of learners with other mathematicians and math majors who will support you as you progress through the curriculum.

“I think the positive Christian environment and role models at Friends University make for a great educational experience and exhibit a family and caring atmosphere that have helped me throughout my career.” – Ardith Rooney Dunn, health and physical education, math major
