Community Orchestra concert set for April 28

The Friends University Community Orchestra Concert will perform Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. in Sebits Auditorium, Riney Fine Arts Center on the Friends University campus.

The program will feature the winner of the Miller Concerto Competition, Amanda Hawkins, playing Kabalevsky’s Third Piano Concerto and the winner of the Wichita Metropolitan Music Teachers Association piano competition, Emma Thacker, playing Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto in C minor. The orchestra will also premiere a new work by violist and Friends University alumnus Steven Garcia titled Suite of the Celestial Traveller. The concert will finish with Schubert’s famous Symphony No. 8 “Unfinished.”

The performance will take place in Sebits Auditorium, Riney Fine Arts Center on the Friends University campus at 2100 W. University Ave., Wichita, Kan. Tickets are $11 for adults and $9 for seniors and students.
