Jordan Kirtley Gallery Reception Set for Jan. 25 at Friends University

Wichita, Kan.– Friends University will host a gallery reception for local mixed-media artist Jordan Kirtley. The reception will take place in the Riney Fine Arts Gallery in Riney Fine Arts Center Jan. 25 from 5-7 p.m.

The exhibit is titled Observable Universe. “My subject matter ranges from the minuscule – a blueberry – to the celestial – Titan, Saturn’s largest moon. I treat both in the same way, constructing them of pencil, paint and marker on paper, housed in wood boxes. In doing so, the irregular segments of fruit in a lemon slice take on the same scale and consequence as the craters and ridges of a planet’s terrain,” Kirtley said.

Observable Universe will be on display until Feb. 16 and is free and open to the public.

The exhibit is sponsored in part by KMUW, Wichita’s National Public Radio member station.
