Friends University presents International Jazz Day Celebration, April 30

Wichita, Kan. – Friends University Jazz Department presents a showcase concert, International Jazz Day Celebration, Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 7:30 p.m.

This concert will highlight three of the Friends University jazz groups:

  • Equinox Jazz Combo
  • Soulstice Jazz Combo
  • Concert Jazz Band

International Jazz Day originated in 2011 instigated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). “International Jazz Day brings together communities, schools, artists, historians, academics and jazz enthusiasts on all continents to celebrate and learn about jazz and its roots, future and impact,” cited the Jazz Day’s official website.

The movement is celebrated for its efforts in promoting peace, facilitating dialog around tough subjects, fighting for human rights and pushing for equality.

“Friends University is honored to contribute to this effort and we pride ourselves in maintaining the highest standards of music-making in numerous genres that are associated with jazz. We are very proud of our students’ accomplishments and their endeavors to entertain and create art at a professional level. We owe everything to the founders of the music that came before us and are honored to be a part of this tradition,” said Dr. Nick Schroeder, Friends University’s Director of Jazz.

The performance will take place in Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium on the Friends University campus at 2100 W. University Ave., Wichita, Kan and tickets may be purchased online at friends.edu/fineartstickets or by calling the Fine Arts Box Office at 316-295-5677.
