Friends University announces Dr. Cynthia Cisneros McGilvrey as Director of Friendship Fields program 

Friends University is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Cynthia “Cindy” Cisneros McGilvrey as the Director of Friendship Fields.    

“The Friendship Fields program has been a labor of love and a blessing to the Friends University community for nearly a decade,” said Dr. Amy Bragg Carey, president of Friends University. “We are pleased Dr. McGilvrey will lead the program and continue to propel it into the future. Her commitment to serving the needs of Friendship Fields students in a learning environment along with her professional experience in curriculum design is an asset to the university and this program.”   

Friendship Fields is a program associated with Friends University that allows college-age adults with disabilities to experience college life while also offering Friends University students the opportunity to work with special needs adults. Friends University believes lifelong learning and social interaction are important for everyone. The program hosts two unique curriculum options for students enrolled in the program.   

“I am grateful for this opportunity and excited about the present and future of Friendship Fields,” said Cindy McGilvrey. “I sincerely appreciate being appointed director and I believe that my purpose and my passion will be a match for the director of Friendship Fields.” 

Dr. McGilvrey holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction from Kansas State University, a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction and Bachelor of Arts in English, both from Wichita State University. She previously served as the Assistant Director of Friendship Fields; director, teacher and lead teach at Wichita Adult Learning Center (also known as Chester Lewis Simon Academy and formerly known as Urban League Learning Center/Dunbar Learning Center); violence and drug prevention teaching specialist at USD 259 Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools; and Team Leader and Language Arts instruction at USD 259 John Marshal Middle School Professional Development Site.
