WICHITA, Kan. — Friends University has named Dr. Kirk Moss as its next Vice President for Academic Affairs. He will join the university on September 8, bringing extensive experience in academic leadership, faculty development, strategic planning, accreditation, and institutional effectiveness.
Dr. Moss currently serves as Vice Provost for Faculty & Academic Programs at the University of Northwestern – St. Paul, where he provides leadership for multiple academic units and collaborates with senior leaders to advance institutional priorities. Throughout his career, he has served as a vice provost, dean, department chair, and faculty member, with previous appointments at Lawrence University, Minnesota State University Moorhead, and Valdosta State University.

A dedicated leader in Christian higher education, Dr. Moss has built a career focused on academic excellence, mission-centered leadership, and responsible stewardship. In his current role, he oversees faculty, academic administrators, and key academic support functions. Dr. Moss earned a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Florida, a Master of Music degree from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Michigan. He has also served in national leadership roles, including president of the American String Teachers Association, while maintaining an active record of scholarship and professional service.
