Friends University promotes Chmieleski to VP of student affairs

Guy-Chmieleski-portraitFriends University has promoted Dr. Guy Chmieleski to vice president of student affairs. Dr. Chmieleski will also continue to serve as dean of campus ministries, a position he has held since July 2016.

“Dr. Chmieleski is a proponent of our Christian mission, a passionate student advocate and a trusted leader,” said Dr. Amy Bragg Carey, president of Friends University. “His promotion is well-deserved.”

Since July 2018, Dr. Chmieleski has served as the interim vice president of student affairs.

“During the past several months, Dr. Chmieleski has brought new energy to student affairs as well as a focus on student and staff leadership development,” Dr. Carey said.

Dr. Chmieleski has extensive experience working in higher education, including serving as the university minister and an adjunct professor at Belmont University, the coordinator of chapel/convocation at Pepperdine University, the director of outreach at Asbury University and the coordinator of campus ministries at Palm Beach Atlantic University.

He is a regular speaker at conferences and events and has authored three books: “Noise. Hurry. Crowds. On Creating Space for God Amidst the Chaos of Campus and Culture” (2015); “CAMPUS gODS: Exposing the Idols That Can Derail Your Present and Destroy Your Future” (2013); and “Shaping Their Future: Mentoring Students Through Their Formative College Years” (2013).

He earned a Doctor of Ministry from George Fox Evangelical Seminary after completing a Master of Art in Ministry from Palm Beach Atlantic University and a Bachelor of Art in Youth Ministry from Bethel University, St. Paul, Minn.
