Art Education

The Art Education program prepares students to teach in grades PreK-12. This four-year program includes an internship in both the elementary and secondary schools during the fall semester of the senior year. Graduates are licensed to teach by the state of Kansas after successfully completing the degree and passing the Principles of Learning and Teaching Exam (PLT). Other requirements (not for licensure) include a cumulative 2.75 grade point average with no “D” grades in the major. This degree is designed by art educators to fully instruct students in the latest and best techniques of teaching art. Computerized equipment is available for student use in the newly remodeled facilities. Wichita art museums and programs also enhance this major.

Alumni Highlight

“I would definitely recommend that they go to a place like Friends University and at least inquire about it. What they would learn is that it’s not as difficult as they think. It can be intimidating … but the rewards, in my opinion, are great.”
