Friends University License Plates

Can I get my Friends University license plate in the mail?

No. You must exchange your current license plate for the Friends University license plate in person at your county tag office. Each plate carries a vehicle identifier, allowing the state to track and identify your vehicle in their system.

Can I renew my Friends University license plate via mail?

Yes. You may renew via U.S. mail or in person at your county tag office. There is an annual renewal fee of $30 that will go toward Friends University scholarship funds.

Do I have to wait for my current license plate renewal before I can get my Friends University license plate?

No. You can obtain your plate at any time from your local county tag office.

What other costs are involved with the purchase of a Friends University license plate?

Please note that current fees, payable at the time of registration, will include a one-time specialty plate fee of $40.00, plus a one-time reflectorized plate fee of $0.50; annual regular registration fee, including a $5.00 county transaction fee; property taxes; and sales tax, if applicable.

Can I personalize my Friends University license plate or order a handicap version?

No. Plate numbers are produced consecutively and issued randomly. The Division of Vehicles does not allow personalization of educational license plates, honor requests for specific plate numbers or issue handicap versions.
