What a prospective employee wears can make a strong impression on a current or future employer. The next Backpack-to-Briefcase workshop in the 2011 series, hosted by the Campus and Career Transitions Office, will help job seekers navigate their closets and differentiate among appropriate interview attire, business casual and business formal.
Friends University, the region's leading Christian-based liberal arts institution, has named four finalists in its search to replace long-time president, Dr. Biff Green, who will retire June 30, 2011. Since fall 2010, members of the Presidential Search Committee have been working to identify Friends’ next president. The candidates were selected from an original pool of more than 70 applicants.
Friends University student Mary Rose Biltz has been selected as one of 10 finalists by the Wichita Eagle for a Christmas carol parody contest. The Eagle is asking people to vote for their favorite parody, and the winner will receive a $200 gift card.
As of Friday afternoon, Biltz’s parody was among the top three most popular parodies. Her parody is titled “Santa in the ICT” and is based on the song “Jingle Bells.”
Beginning in mid-November, Friends University students will be able to check out books from Edmund Stanley Library donated by Robert Tusler, a 1946 graduate, now living in the Netherlands.
In January 2010, Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. John Yoder received a letter from Tusler, now 90 years old, inquiring if the library would accept books from his private collection of more than 5,000 books and musical scores. In his letter, Tusler stated:
Nine students from LaSalle University in Cancun will be visiting Wichita from Jan. 5 to Feb. 3, 2011, as part of a Sister Cities Exchange. The students are from Friends University's sister university in Cancun and are coming to the University to intensively study English as a second language. They will also have an opportunity to sit in on regular university classes related to their field of study. Dr.
Corey Wynn, senior Graphic Design major and Marketing minor, had his design selected to be the new Wichita Dental Group logo.
Dr. John Lewis, owner of Wichita Dental Group and Friends University Board of Trustees member, had approached Karen Scroggins, assistant professor of graphic arts, about having her students submit new logo designs for his practice.
With the new year quickly approaching, registration for the Friends University 2011 spring semester will begin Monday, Nov. 8, and continue through Dec. 10. Priority registration for juniors and seniors is 8 a.m. until noon Nov. 8. Open enrollment starts at 1 p.m. on Monday afternoon for all students in the Office of the University Registrar in Sumpter Hall. Late registration will be Jan. 4-11 with classes beginning Jan. 11, 2011.
Marc Elliot, tolerance educator, will present “What Makes You Tic?” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Casado Campus Center atrium at Friends University. This event is sponsored by the Diversity Committee of Falcon Activities and Campus Events, which is a branch of Student Government Association.
