Community service is an integral part of the Friends University educational and extracurricular experience. The Office of Community and Residential Development offers several programs/initiatives for students interested in giving their time and talents to local, regional, national and even international causes/organizations.
Salvation Army Service Day
Each year since 1992, Friends University staff, faculty, and student groups join together to serve at the Salvation Army, as part of their Angel Tree Project. The University assists the charity group with donation pick-ups, sorting gifts, assembling bikes, and decoration the facility for the families.

Run with Friends
Friends University’s historic clocktower building, beautiful campus and surrounding Delano neighborhood will welcomes runners and walkers of all ages as part of the Annual Friends University President’s Run each April. Friends University’s Freddy Falcon is joined by many other area mascots to cheer participants on and mingle after the races.
Races include a Falcon 5K Competitive Race (timing and race management by Clark Ensz) and the Mascot Mile Fun Run/Walk. Come check out our great 5K course, which is part of the Prairie Fire Spring Half Marathon in May! Following the races, participants and spectators enjoy live music, vendor booths and refreshments. Race participants receive a short-sleeve tech T-shirt and other goodies in addition to prizes for all age levels. Come out and discover why Friends University is known for its friendly, welcoming and supportive atmosphere.
Wichita Community Children’s Choir
The Wichita Community Children’s Choir is dedicated to leading children to learn and perform beautiful choral music. Directed by Mrs. Karen Sims, the WCCC is a select group of treble singers in grades 4-8 from Wichita and surrounding communities. Members of the choir strive to achieve the highest level of choral artistry and to discover the joy of singing together through energetic, challenging rehearsals and inspiring, joy-filled performances.
The choir was founded in 1992 by Marilyn Killian and Barbara Bowers. Past performances of the choir include performances with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, with opera legend Samuel Ramey, and at state, regional and national music conferences. Friends University has been the host institution since the choir’s inception.
Rehearsals are Thursdays from 4:45 to 6:15 p.m. in the Riney Fine Arts Center on the Friends University campus in Wichita.
