Week of Philos

What is Philos?

In John 15:13, Jesus says, “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” The Greek word for “Friends” used in John 15:13 is the word “Philos.” This is not your typical kind of friendship or acquaintance. Philos are unique friendships that are based in love, community, loyalty, and reciprocity. Philos are the kind of friends you call and you know they’ll answer. Philos are the kind of friends that you know will always support you through anything, and they know that you will always support them. The Week of Philos is a week at Friends University where we set aside time to focus on exemplifying what it means to be in community at Friends, to support and love one another, and to bring people together.

Opportunities for Partnership

During this week, the Friends community will be invited to come together with opportunities to revel in our unity and commitment to one another while at the same time celebrating the things that make us different. The vision for this week is that events will not just come from just a few areas of campus, but that many departments, organizations, and teams will want to participate in some way. That may look like planning an event, using the theme of “Philos” in pre-existing activities, or just organized participation. Please consider this is your personal invitation, we would love to partner with you on this. If you, as an individual or a member of a club, team, organization, or department on campus, would like to host an event or find a place a plug in, please contact us! Our office is more than happy to help with financial and administrative resources for Week of Philos events.

For more information on participating, you can contact Case Bell at Case_Bell@Friends.Edu.
